10/29/2007 - Süd-Chemie Group reports continuing dynamic growth in 2007 with an increase in profitability

- Year-on-year rise in sales reaches 10.9% after third quarter
- EBIT up 19.3% compared with the first nine months of 2006
- Continuing positive outlook for the full year 2007

Süd-Chemie AG, Munich has continued its dynamic performance throughout the first nine months of 2007, generating strong rises in Group sales and significantly higher increases in its consolidated profit from operations.

During the first nine months of 2007, sales rose by €77.1 million or 10.9% compared with the first quarter of 2006 to reach €787.5 million. Both divisions of the speciality chemicals company, Adsorbents and Catalysts, contributed to the Group‘s performance. A particularly steep rise in demand was reported for Süd-Chemie's foundry products and detergent additives in Europe, as well as industrial catalysts.

Reaching €66.0 million, €10.7 million or 19.3% more than in the first nine months of 2006, profit from operations (EBIT) reported an extremely positive result. The highly-profitable Catalysts Division was able to record a particularly significant increase in earnings. In addition, the rise in profits resulted mainly from process-optimization, higher capacity utilization in the production plants, successful regional expansion and the successful positioning of both new and improved products. Based on higher selling prices, it was possible to recoup an increasing percentage of the increases in the costs of raw materials and energy. Earnings before interest, taxes and depreciation (EBITDA) improved by €13.9 million or 16.5% to €97.9 million.

Its performance during the first nine months reaffirms Süd-Chemie's forecast of generating Group sales of some €1.1 billion for the full year of 2007. This will represent an approximately 10% increase compared with 2006. For the full year of 2007, a rise of some 20% compared with last year is also expected in profit from operations (EBIT).
