A Süd-Chemie leadership process

The water-gas shift process is designed to remove the bulk of carbon monoxide while also generating hydrogen. The first stage is a high-temperature process followed by a low-temperature stage.

Over 50 years of water-gas shift experience in industrial hydrogen production along with extensive R&D have given Süd-Chemie a very strong leadership position in this technology—both in base- and precious-metal catalysts.

In base-metal formulations, we offer a novel catalyst that is able to withstand start-up and shut-down that industrial catalysts cannot tolerate. It is active at low temperatures and requires no special activation.

Our advanced platinum water-gas shift catalysts provide exceptional volumetric activity—along with long-term stability. They also give a level of selectivity (developed with patent-pending new technology) that is a full order of magnitude greater than competitive products! Because of these benefits many newer designs are using the platinum catalysts instead of base-metal, and they are gaining significant size and performance advantages.
