01/06/2006 - INTERPHEX 2006 PREVIEW: SÜD-CHEMIE SHOWCASES NEW PRODUCTS AND PROVEN PACKAGING SOLUTIONS

BELEN, NEW MEXICO (January 3, 2006) – Süd-Chemie Performance Packaging, a business unit of Süd-Chemie AG, will be showcasing its pharmaceutical industry offerings at Interphex 2006, Booth 2255, Jacob Javits Center, New York, New York, March 21 to 23.

“Süd-Chemie continues to serve the pharmaceutical market with active and protective packaging components that are not only functional, but innovative,” said Bob Crossno, director of sales and marketing. “Based on our ever popular desiccant canisters, we now offer other canister products such as PharmaKeep® oxygen absorbing canisters and Aroma-CAN™ scented canisters for use in pharmaceutical and nutritional applications.”

Süd-Chemie’s, Aroma-Can, modeled after its desiccant canisters, adds pleasant aromas to product packaging.

PharmaKeep is the first canister able to absorb moisture in low relative humidity package environments, which is necessary for pharmaceutical applications. Süd-Chemie and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company (MGC) jointly developed the product. MGC will be co-located with Süd-Chemie at the show.

In late 2005, Süd-Chemie announced that it now offers Aroma-Can scented canisters for the nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries employing patent pending Encapsulated Aroma Release Technology™, trademarked CompelAroma™, from ScentSational Technologies. The aroma product, which will include a full range of offerings from canisters to polymer tubes and desiccant stoppers, allows manufacturers to protect their products from moisture and other elements while simultaneously adding an appealing orange, lemon or custom designed scent to their packaging. The product can be purchased with or without a desiccant.

PharmaKeep and Aroma-Can canisters are based on Süd-Chemie’s quality desiccant canisters, which have become the gold standard of pharmaceutical desiccants. All Süd-Chemie canisters can be automatically inserted into bottles at high rates of speed using widely available canister insertion equipment.

In addition to its canister line, Süd-Chemie will showcase its full range of desiccants and polymer packaging products, including its injection molded tubes and desiccant stoppers which are used in the rapidly growing effervescent tablet market.
