What is it?
PharmaKeep® packets are an innovative line of oxygen absorbers developed and distributed jointly by Süd-Chemie Performance Packaging, a business unit of Süd-Chemie Group, and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. (MGC).
Why use it?
Oxygen is everywhere. However, when oxygen is inside pharmaceutical packaging, it can degrade pharmaceutical formulations and decrease shelf life. PharmaKeep oxygen absorbing packets address oxidative degradation in pharmaceutical products, helping to ensure that pharmaceutical products remain effective, even when inevitably exposed to the harmful effects of oxygen.
Oxygen also causes reactions in many chemicals and substrates used in in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) products. PharmaKeep packets help prevent these oxidation reactions, ensuring that diagnostic test kits remain accurate and reliable.
While conventional oxygen absorbers need moisture to absorb oxygen, PharmaKeep absorbs oxygen at low relative humidity levels. This means that manufacturers can protect their products from both oxygen and moisture. It also means that they can address the need for oxygen protection in the packaging, rather than in the drug formulation phase, saving valuable research and launch time.
PharmaKeep complies with FDA requirements for contact with pharmaceutical products.
Available configurations
PharmaKeep packets are available in standard oxygen absorbing form, as well as two-in-one moisture and oxygen absorbing configuration.
PharmaKeep oxygen absorbing packets (PharmaKeep KH) and oxygen and moisture absorbing packets (PharmaKeep KD or KC) are available in two sizes, based on oxygen absorbing capacity. Specifications are as follows:
PharmaKeep Packet KH Type (Oxygen):
KH-20: Can absorb at least 20 cu. cm. of oxygen
PharmaKeep Packet KD Type (Oxygen and Moisture):
KD-10: Can absorb at least 10 cu. cm. of oxygen. With silica gel fill, can absorb at least 0.07 gram of water per packet. KD-20: Can absorb at least 20 cu. cm. of oxygen. With silica gel fill, can absorb at least 0.15 gram of water per packet.
PharmaKeep Packet KC Type (Oxygen and Moisture):
KC-10: Can absorb at least 10 cu. cm. of oxygen. With calcium oxide fill, can absorb at least 0.07 gram of water per packet. KC-20: Can absorb at least 20 cu. cm. of oxygen. With calcium oxide fill, can absorb at least 0.15 gram of water per packet.
