01/27/2005 - Süd-Chemie in Indonesia: unbureaucratic on-the-spot aid

The "Aquacube" water-treatment plant donated by Süd-Chemie AG, Munich to victims of the flood disaster in Southern Asia has been working perfectly for almost two weeks now. Operated in Indonesia by two Süd-Chemie employees, the plant filters 1,500 litres of water an hour. Thanks to its mobility, the "Aquacube" plant offers the advantage that pure drinking water can be supplied to people housed in emergency aid camps in Banda Aceh province. Our two members of staff ensure that the plant is set up wherever drinking water is most urgently needed, clean water still being the number one problem in the areas of Southeast Asia affected by the disaster.

Instead of donating money, the Managing Board of Süd-Chemie AG decided to provide practical support in the form of fast, direct and unbureaucratic aid for the disaster area in Southeast Asia. It therefore donated the water-treatment plant, including shipping costs, and also delegated two experienced members of staff to install and supervise on-the-spot operation of the plant. With the co-operation of the Indonesian relief organisation, Sampoerna Rescue, and the support of the Indonesian army, immediate transport of the plant from Jakarta to Banda Aceh could be guaranteed.

Via its South African subsidiary, Süd-Chemie and Water and Process Technologies (Pty) Ltd., a leading company in the water treatment sector, Süd-Chemie AG can offer many years´ experience in supplying high-quality water-treatment systems.
