01/11/2005 - Süd-Chemie donates a water-treatment plant to Indonesia

Süd-Chemie AG in Munich is to supply a water-treatment plant from South Africa to provide drinking water in Indonesia, the country most strongly hit by the flood disaster in Southeast Asia. Countless people in this area are still cut off without supplies and suffering from an acute lack of clean drinking water.

Süd-Chemie Water and Process Technologies (Pty) Ltd, a leading company in the water-treatment sector with many years´ experience in providing high-quality mobile water-treatment systems, is active mainly in the South African market. With the aid of the Indonesian organisation PT HM Sampoerna Tbk and the Indonesian army, one of the plants operating in South Africa is to be supplied to the disaster area in Banda Aceh in Northern Sumatra where it is scheduled to go into operation latest on 17 January, 2005. The plant is capable of supplying 1,500 litres of purified water per hour.

In addition to contributing the water-treatment plant and the air freight, the aid provided by Süd-Chemie also includes the assembly and operation of the plant by two experienced staff members.
