Catalytic Combustors for Wood-Burning Appliances

Warranty Information

What is covered?

This warranty covers a new Süd-Chemie catalytic combustor that is a component of a wood-burning stove of which you purchased or purchased separately for full price. This is a warranty against defects in workmanship or materials in such combustors that prevent them from functioning when properly used and installed.

How long is the coverage period?

The warranty coverage runs for six (6) years from the date you purchased the wood stove or six (6) years from the date you paid full purchase price for a new Süd-Chemie atalytic combustor.

What is "NOT" covered?

Under no circumstances will Süd-Chemie be responsible for any installation or removal costs resulting from the failure of any catalytic combustor or for any stove. Any failure of a Süd-Chemie catalytic combustor caused by improper installation, misuse, failure to follow Süd-Chemie's use and care guidelines or the instructions of the manufacturer of the wood-burning stove of which Süd-Chemie's catalytic combustor is a component is not covered by this warranty. Süd-Chemie's only obligation under this warranty is to provide a replacement combustor for each non-working or failed combustor returned to Süd-Chemie as stated above and Süd-Chemie specifically excludes relief from any consequential or incidental damages. Süd-Chemie will not reimburse for any combustor purchased in the event a combustor fails. No replacement Süd-Chemie catalytic combustor is covered by the warranty for any period longer than the original Süd-Chemie catalytic combustor that it replaced.

Who is covered?

You are covered if you are the original purchaser of a new wood-burning stove containing a Süd-Chemie catalytic combustor as a component or if you separately purchased a Süd-Chemiecatalytic combustor for full price.

What will Süd-Chemie do?

If the Süd-Chemie catalytic combustor fails within the first two (2) years of your purchase of your wood stove or your purchase of a full price combustor, Süd-Chemie will provide a replacement catalytic combustor at a charge of $8.50 for postage and handling. If such a combustor fails within the third (3) to sixth (6) year of your purchase, Süd-Chemie will provide a replacement catalytic combustor at a prorated cost as set forth by the "Warranty Replacement Cost Table" included in this booklet. Unless that failure is due to misuse or failure to follow the use and care guidelines listed. In the event a combustor supplied under this arrangement should fail within the original combustor warranty period, Süd-Chemie will provide another replacement on the terms contained in the "Warranty Replacement Cost Table" based on the original date you purchased your wood stove or paid the full price for a Süd-Chemie catalytic combustor.

Use & Care Guidelines

On a showroom floor, a catalytic combustor-equipped wood stove may look like any other wood stove. There are certain differences in operating a catalytic combustor-equipped wood stove you must consider in order to achieve the maximum possible performance and catalyst life.

Caution: Before installing a catalytic appliance on an existing chimney, be sure that the chimney has been cleaned and any creosote build-up removed. Use of a catalytic appliance does not eliminate the need for periodic chimney inspections and cleaning to reduce creosote. Failure to remove creosote build-up can result in chimney fires.

During the start up of a cold stove, a medium to high firing rate must be maintained, with the bypass damper open, for about 20 minutes to ensure the stove, catalyst, and fuel are all stabilized at proper operating temperatures.

When refueling a stove or when operating at a high firing rate, the bypass damper should be in the open position.

Immediately after refueling a hot stove that has a catalytic temperature below 500ºF (260ºC), we recommend the stove be operating at a medium to high firing rate, with the bypass damper open, for about 10 minutes to ensure the catalyst reaches proper operating temperature. If the stove is not equipped with a catalyst temperature monitor, follow this procedure after every refueling.

Immediately after refueling a hot stove that has a catalyst temperature above 500ºF (260ºC), may be adjusted to provide optimum heat.
