By pioneering polymer based boiler water deposit and corrosion inhibitors, Business Unit Water Treatment has addressed both traditional scale prevention and the problems brought about by iron ingress and variable feed water quality.

In the late 1960’s we were the first company to offer a specific iron dispersant for boiler water treatment. We continue this tradition with our Sudsteam Deposit Inhibitor range. This range of deposit inhibitors is the largest selling boiler water treatment range on the African continent.

MEKO

Meko is a volatile steam and condensate line treatment programme suitable for most boiler and steam line applications. It not only acts as an oxygen scavenger, but will also passivate metal surfaces. This product is in use in many industries in Africa and is particularly effective where installations have long steam and condensate lines.

Cooling Water Treatment

Our latest SUDKOR Series of Cooling Water Chemicals, consists of a complex blend of unique oxidant-stable, organic based components.

They provide as much as 90 percent improved corrosion and fouling reduction compared to traditional programmes in industrial cooling systems, even in severely stressed systems, and cater for a range of water qualities varying from corrosive coastal water to highly stressed Highveld waters.

The combination of anodic and cathodic inhibitors forms a film on steel and ferrous alloys. The inhibitors promote protective surface films of gamma iron oxide and reduce the diffusion of dissolved oxygen and corrosive anions to the base metal layers. In addition, a combination of several advanced polymeric dispersants and oxidant-resistant organic phosphonates provides control of calcium carbonate, calcium sulphate and calcium phosphate scale formation. The scale inhibition mechanisms perform across a wide pH range.

F.A.C.T.S. (Forward Analysing Computerised Telemetry System)

Süd-Chemie’s F.A.C.T.S. analyser technology used in conjunction with the Water Cycle predictive computer programme has forever changed the way a cooling water programme is designed and judged. Building upon F.A.C.T.S. technology, Business Unit Water Treatment provides total control capability through computerised services, thus strengthening our reputation as the industry leader in this area.

F.A.C.T.S. is a computerised single-tube heat exchanger that mimics a (troublesome) plant heat exchanger. Actual cooling tower water passes through it and is monitored for pH, TDS, corrosion and fouling rates on a continuous basis. Chemical and physical changes to the system are picked up by the unit, enabling optimal conditions for the heat exchanger to be identified and implemented.

F.A.C.T.S. is provided to larger customers on a temporary and free-on-loan basis.
