01/09/2004 - Dr. Jürgen F. Kammer celebrates his 65th birthday

Dr. Jürgen F. Kammer, Chairman of the Managing Board of Süd-Chemie AG in Munich, celebrates his 65th birthday today. Since 1992, Dr. Kammer has been Chairman of this independent specialty-chemistry group which operates on a worldwide scale. Süd-Chemie is a leading player in the sector of chemistry and physics for surfaces comprising finest-grained inorganic and, with more than sixty production and sales companies, is active in the sectors of both catalytic technologies and adsorbents. Employing more than 4,400 people, Süd-Chemie generated sales of some €755 million during the 2002 financial year.

Since taking office, Dr. Jürgen F. Kammer has significantly influenced the development of Süd-Chemie, shaping its transition from a traditional medium-sized company to a globally-active group. As a result of its own product developments and systematic acquisitions, Süd-Chemie meanwhile holds a leading position in numerous niche markets, having acquired an excellent reputation among customers as a strong and reliable partner.

Before joining Süd-Chemie AG, Dr. Jürgen F. Kammer had worked for the BASF Group since 1970, since 1988 as Managing Board Chairman of BASF Lacke und Farben AG in Münster and Head of the BASF Group´s Paints and Coatings Division. During his twenty years with BASF, he held positions at operational, regional and the positions of Managing Director at BASF Mexicana, Head of the Brazilian company Glasurit Ltda. and Head of the Central Finance Function for the BASF Group.

In addition to his work on the Managing Board and his commitments as a supervisory board member in several other companies, Dr. Jürgen F. Kammer also holds numerous honorary positions in industrial and trade associations. Since 2001, he has been Vice President of the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI), Frankfurt.

Dr. Jürgen F. Kammer was born in Bad Nauheim. He acquired a doctorate in law following his studies in Munich, Kiel and Freiburg. He is the father of four children and lives with his wife in Munich.
