Süd-Chemie and the Environmental Pact of Bavaria

"Environmental Economics" - that's the motto of the 2nd continuation of the Environmental Pact of Bavaria, a joint initiative between Bavarian state government and industry (Download agreement from October 25th 2005).

Süd-Chemie has been a member from the very beginning in 1995.

The Environmental Pact of Bavaria is the first voluntary environmental agreement between industry and government in Europe aiming at joint additional environmental achievements.
This initiative has been a model for many similar agreements throughout Germany and Europe.

In this 2nd continuation Süd-Chemie has committed itself to 4 measures:

Development of

innovative particle filter for unburned carbon,

heating stack with catalytic reduction of CO and particles,

projects to use “fermentation gas” in fuel cells.

Engineering of plants to reduce N2O (laughing gas) during fertilizers production.

With the 1st continuation in 2000 Süd-Chemie has committed itself to reduce nitrate content in wastewater for at least 50% at Heufeld site.
In 2005 – the due date – Süd-Chemie achieved this goal and more: the facility reduces the nitrate content for at least 90%. Further improvements are planned in near future.
