Resins & Waxes

Resins and Rosins are hydrogenated to remove unsaturates over Ni- (NiSAT®300, NiSAT®320, NiSAT®330), Pd- (H2Max 50, MPT-series) or Cu-based catalysts. Copper catalysts are mainly supplied for fixed-bed processes. The recommended types are ActiSorb® 300 and G-99 B-0. The selection of the catalyst depends very much on the type of resin and its molecular weight. For abietinic resins often palladium catalysts are recommended whereas for specific C5-petroleum resins, nickel powders may be more effective.

Fischer -Tropsch Waxes typically contain carbonylic unsaturated compounds. These impurities are giving the wax a faint yellow colour. The colour has to be removed for a variety of applications. FT waxes can contain traces of iron which are typically removed prior to a hydrogenation treatment with ActiSorb®400.
